Commuting at NYU requires managing information related to your travel, and staying up-to-date on important resources. These helpful resources can make your commute easier, and in some cases, even less expensive! Greenwich Hotel

  • Greenwich Hotel is available for commuter students at any time during the semester. You can reserve shared rooms for $45 per night or single rooms for $65 per night. To make a reservation email greenwich.reservations@nyu.edu with your requests. You will be sent a form that you will need to fill out and return by fax at least 72 hours prior to the requested reservation date.

Student Lockers

You can rent lockers at the following locations:

  • Kimmel Center for University Life: Lockers are available for commuter students on a first come first served basis on the 3rd floor of the Kimmel Center. You can reserve a locker at the Student Resource Center beginning on August 30th, 2009. To reserve a locker for the academic year a $20 deposit is required (cash only). Students must supply their own locks.
  • Bobst Library: Lockers can be rented for $25 per semester (Fall, Spring, Summer individually) or $65 per year (Fall/Spring/Summer) for further information visit http://library.nyu.edu/services/lockers.html
  • Brown Building/Silver Center: Priority given to CAS science students. Lockers generally become available to everyone in mid-September for $10 per year ($5 thereafter with the lock), lasting through May. Visit the Brown Building, Romm 565, or call 212-998-8481.
  • Palladium Sports Facility: Free lockers are available on a daily-use basis; otherwise, the rental rate is $40 per semester or $110 for fall, spring, and summer. Visit the Palladium Membership Office on the lower level of Palladium (140 East 14th Street). For more information, call 212-992-8510
  • Stern School of Business, Tisch Hall:Lockers are available free of charege for the year for Stern undergraduate commuter students at the beginning of the fall semester. Stern commuters should receive an e-mail at the start of the fall semester with complete details. For more information, call 212-998-0277

Commuter Discounts

  • New Jersey Transit: NJ TRANSIT offers full-time students a 25% discount for bus, rail, or light rail monthly passes. This is an auto-subscription program, each month you will get a new pass unless you cancel or suspend your account. There is a $3 processing fee each month for the program. In May, all passes are suspended and students must re-enroll to continue receiving passes. Students must sign up by the tenth of the month to receive a pass for the following month. If you are interested in signing up, go to www.home.nyu.edu and click Enroll under the NYU Life Tab.
  • Metropolitan Transit Authority: Although student discounts are not available for MTA subway and bus users, you can save money by purchasing 7-Day or 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCards.
  • Amtrak: Amtrak offers discounts for students who have a Student Advantage Card, an International Student Identification Card, who are active US Military personnel, or AAA members.
  • MetroNorth and the Long Island Rail Road: All individuals (not just students) can use the Mail and Ride program and save between 2% and 5% when you have monthly passes automatically mailed to your home.
