If you are really and truly broke and you need to get somewhere…
walk! New York is a walking city (although walking is preferable
anytime but the winter months!). Get out there and see the city.
Walk around town and take it all in. There are various books
available at any bookstore that detail scenic walking tours of
the city.

NYU offers you free shuttle service to campus from Residence
Halls located further from campus. Even if you are not a resident
you can hop on a trolley to the Seaport area, Wall Street,

The 30-day metrocard gives you access to all subways and buses in New
York City. It can be purchased at any station for $81 a month, which
is very cost effective. You can also purchase an unlimited day pass
for $7.50 or an unlimited weekly pass for $25.

Now this is the way to see the Statue of Liberty – it
is 100% FREE! It is the only attraction in Manhattan
that has actually gone down in price!! Catch the ferry to Staten
Island and see amazing views of the Manhattan skyline.

(Metrocards are accepted), and students with tram permits ride

a break from city life. The even offer inexpensive one-day
getaway packages to Mohegan Sun Casino, The Bronx Zoo, the
Woodbury Common Outlets, or hiking upstate. All trains depart
from Grand Central Station (4, 5, 6, 7, S to Grand Central).

Another great way to escape city life briefly. For a minimal
fee you can head out to quaint towns and beaches, even hit the

are really low on funds you can always catch a Greyhound. They
have walk up service and their fares are really inexpensive. Buses
depart from Port Authority (42nd St. & 8th Ave. - A, C, E, N, Q, R,
S, W, 1, 2, 3, 7 to 42nd St.).

weekly basis. There are also websites dedicated to finding you
cheap flights (as well as lodging).
Important Note: Buying your ticket online is cheaper than
calling. Many internet prices are not available over the
phone!

Check out Spirit Airlines for its cyber specials! From Friday at
midnight until Sunday at midnight you can purchase a cyber
special, which usually sells tickets for $99 - $170 for flights
for the following week.

One of the newest airlines available, JetBlue is making a name
for its reasonable rates and excellent service. They often run
specials such as trips to California or Colorado for $200
roundtrip. If you sign up for their TrueBlue program, after you
accrue 100 points you get a free trip anywhere they fly--like
Puerto Rico!!!
