When is the program?

The dates for the NYU Spring in New York program are the same dates as the NYU spring semester. For exact start and end dates for future semesters, consult the NYU Registrar's web site for the official Academic Calendar.

Who can apply?

Students who are enrolled and currently earning an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university may apply. Applicants must have sophomore or junior standing in the spring of participation.

How selective is the program?

NYU Spring in New York is a selective program. Students offered admission typically have above a 3.0 grade point average at their home institution and demonstrate a strong interest in one of the four concentrations. All students must be in good academic standing at their home institution.

How do I apply?

Your application form must be submitted online. You will need to mail official copies of your college transcript(s) to the Office of University Programs.

When is the application deadline?

All application credentials (including official transcripts) for priority registration should be received by November 11th. The deadline for international applicants is November 1st. You are encouraged to apply early as enrollment is limited.

Is there an application fee?

There is a $70 application fee.

What courses are available?

There are four concentrations with courses that focus on preprofessional areas. Students will also have the option of choosing one course outside of their approved concentration. There is also a Spring in NY - Design your own program option available.

What is a difference between the four concentrations and Design your own?

The concentrations are preprofessional and students have the opportunity to acquire internships through NYU. For students who find that these concentrations do not match their interests, there is a Design your own program option available. Students will be able to choose from a number of classes that they meet the prerequisites for and internships will not be guaranteed.

Will I earn college credit?

All courses in Spring in New York are credit-bearing courses. It is the responsibility of students enrolled in the program to provide their home institution with accurate translations of the following in order to receive transfer credit:

  • Official NYU transcript (upon completion of the semester)
  • Spring in New York course descriptions and/or course syllabi

Will I be able to participate in an internship?

As participants of Spring in New York, students are eligible to take advantage of the resources offered to all NYU students through the Wasserman Center for Career Development. Once on campus, students will have access to search hundreds of internships in the New York City area through use of CareerNet. Students who take the Public Service concentration are guaranteed an internship.

What if the program and courses I want are full?

If you are an acceptable candidate but the program or courses you listed as your first choice on your application are full (or closed), we will try to enroll you in your second choice courses. We encourage students to apply early.

What constitutes full-time student status?

All Spring in New York students must enroll in 12-18 units/credits of credit.

Are other classes available to Spring in New York students?

The academic departments at NYU review their spring semester course offerings every year and have selected the courses that are most appropriate for students in this program. We believe we can accommodate most student interests through these courses.

Is financial assistance available?

Partial scholarships are available through the Spring in NY office. The financial aid paperwork and a list of the necessary supporting materials can be found in the Spring in NY application.

Participants are encouraged to consult with their home institution regarding portable financial assistance such as Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, and educational PLUS loans. Through a consortium agreement initiated by the student's home university, this assistance is allowed to travel with the student to be applied to the semester at NYU. Is it a requirement to stay in NYU housing?

Yes. NYU housing has been reserved for Spring in New York participants and is a requirement of participation in the program.

Will completing this program improve my chances of being admitted to NYU as a transfer student?

No. Spring in New York is for one semester only. It is expected that students participating in the program will return to their home institution the following fall. For more information on how to apply for an undergraduate degree at NYU, visit www.nyu.edu/ugadmissions.
