Dr. Noonan joined the faculty at School of Social Work in 1991. Her professional career includes over 25 years of clinical practice in foster care, preventive service and community mental health. In addition Dr. Noonan has served as a consultant to numerous community-based agencies and has lectured extensively on a variety of topics and to diverse audiences including physicians, teachers, rehabilitation counselors, social workers, adolescents and parent associations Dr. Noonan also served for a number of years as the project coordinator for the NYU-CSS Brooklyn Women's Shelter.
Dr. Noonan has published in a number of social work journals including Smith Studies in Social Work, Clinical Social Work and Psychoanalytic Social Work. In addition, Dr. Noonan co-authored a text on Short-Term Treatment and Social Work Practice and is presently completing a text entitled Direct Social Work Practice With Individuals, Families and Small Groups. Dr. Noonan lectures extensively, has been an invited presenter at many national conferences and most recently has served as an advisor to the Administration for Children's Services Curriculum Committee on the impact of trauma in the wake of the events of Sept. 11.
Dr. Noonan has been teaching for over ten years and her teaching and research interests include working with mandated, difficult and hard to reach clients, practice-based research, particularly in terms of process and outcome measures, short-term social work practice, Child Welfare practice, the integration of social work theory and practice, and MSW field learning.
