Allison Werner-Lin is an Assistant Professor at NYU School of Social Work, with professional interests in the areas of psychosocial oncology, genetic testing for hereditary disease, family development, clinical practice with children and families in health care settings, and qualitative social work research. She teaches Practice I and II, and Current Issues in Contemporary Family Life.

Dr Werner-Lin's most recent research is a qualitative investigation in the area of psychosocial genetics. More specifically, her research examines the life course implications of genetic testing for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer for young women and their families. She has presented her research at regional, national, and international conferences. Previous research affiliations include the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Disparities Research at the University of Chicago, The Stone Center and Centers for Research on Women at Wellesley College.
Prior to joining the faculty at NYU, Dr. Werner-Lin held adjunct teaching positions at Pace University and Dominican University. She has practiced in community-based organizations providing individual, family, and group counseling and psychotherapy to families affected by cancer. Her clinical interests include family adjustment to chronic and terminal illness, clinical interventions with children and adolescents, grief and bereavement, multicultural competence in clinical practice and program evaluation.
Dr. Werner-Lin received her Ph.D. from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. She holds a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago, a Master's degree in Human Development and Psychology from the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Family Studies and Psychology from Wellesley College.
