Our Faculty

Experienced clinicians, researchers, experts in human behavior, policy developers, and administrators from many settings come to teach in our programs. This interdisciplinary faculty brings the School a wide range of knowledge and social work orientations spanning contemporary psychodynamic, psychological, and social theory perspectives and related research. They are experienced practicing professionals in mental health, policy administration, research, child welfare, group work, and independent practice.

Professor Shulamith Lala Straussner
Shulamith Lala Straussner, professor of social work, has received two awards: a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award to the Academy of Labour & Social Relations in Kiev, Ukraine, and a Lady Davis Fellowship to Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where she was a visiting professor in the Spring 2007 semester.
Professor Tazuko Shibusawa
Tazuko Shibusawa teaches in the area of advanced clinical practice. Dr. Shibusawa’s research focuses on aging among vulnerable populations, specifically, intimate partner violence among older couples, HIV-risk among older adults, and psychological well-being of Asian-American elders. She has been involved in developing and evaluating a Web- and video-based learning environment for teaching clinical practice skills at the school.
Professor Trudy Festinger
Trudy Festinger, professor of research, has conducted a number of large-scale studies in the fields of foster care and child adoption, including a major follow-up study of youth discharged from foster care. Dr. Festinger is on the editorial board of the Journal of Public Child Welfare, and is a member of the advisory board of the N.Y.C. Administration for Children’s Services.
