Silver School of Social Work Student Awards

The Silver School of Social Work is proud of its more than 13,000 students and alumni who are working at all levels to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals, families, and communities. Each Spring, the Silver School of Social Work will recognize the accomplishments of current students and alumni at a special recognition ceremony.

The awards for current students are:

  • Silver Spirit Award for Outstanding Social Work Students
  • Innovation in Social Work Practice Student Award

Nomination Deadline: The selection committee must receive all nomination forms and supporting materials by Wednesday, March 11, 2009.

Silver Spirit Award for Outstanding Social Work Students

The Silver Spirit Award honors a current member of the student body whose involvement throughout his/her career at the SSSW demonstrates exemplary pride and dedication through a personal commitment of time and energy, volunteerism, scholarship and leadership -- thus reflecting positively on fellow students and the Silver School of Social Work community in general.

Nomination Procedure:
Nominators may use the online form to submit contact information and the statement of nomination by the deadline, Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Self-nominations are welcome. Any supporting materials that can help fully depict the nominee’s achievements may be e-mailed to the selection committee at ssw.studentaffairs@nyu.edu.

Innovation in Social Work Practice Student Award

This award honors a current student who demonstrates creativity and innovation in social work practice through a project, proposal or paper. The project, proposal or paper should include an assessment to identify change or growth potential in an agency or community and a creative plan for implementation of that improvement. Students are encouraged to nominate themselves for this award by submitting a paper or written description of their own innovative service project.

Nomination Procedure:
Students may nominate themselves for this award by using the online form to submit contact information and a brief synopsis of their project, proposal or paper by the deadline, Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Nominations from faculty, field instructors and teachers are welcome. In order to complete the application, the nominee must email the full paper, project description, or proposal to the selection committee at ssw.studentaffairs@nyu.edu.
