The purpose of this Manual is to acquaint you with the School's procedures and requirements so that you can succeed in your graduate studies. The primary mission of the NYU School of Social Work is the education of committed professionals for direct social work practice with individuals, families, groups and communities in a complex urban environment. The professional foundation year provides exposure to a range of social work roles and practice approaches designed to help students acquire foundational social work skills. The field placement provides opportunities for students to synthesize theory and practice by performing professional tasks under supervision.
