FAQs

admissions undergrads field learning financial aid/scholarship international students

1.

Is financial aid available?

Yes, the majority of our full-time MSW students receive scholarships. Awards for new students are based primarily on the merit of your application. All students are required to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form to be eligible for other scholarships available, especially need-based awards from the federal and state government and NYU SSW.

We provide a comprehensive financial aid program for our Social Work students. This includes:

  • School of Social Work tuition remission merit-based scholarships that range between 30-50 percent of the total cost of tuition, not including fees.
  • Competitive scholarships established by the University and/or the School.
  • Federal Loan Programs including subsidized and unsubsidized student loans, Nellie Mae, and private bank loans.
  • Competitive merit and need-based fellowships and scholarships established by private and public institutions and foundations.
  • New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).

Financial need is based on the total amount of student tuition, fees and living expenses minus the expected family contribution. For fall admission, students should ideally complete the FAFSA by March 1 to be considered for financial aid. For spring admission the FAFSA deadline is November 1.

The School of Social Work has a financial aid assistant available to provide assistance and information. Students can meet individually during walk-in hours or by appointment. Open Houses are another venue to learn about financial aid, see our Web site for upcoming dates.
