In a survey administered in the Spring of 2003, 62% of first-year NYU students reported a strong interest in socializing where alcohol or other drug use is not the primary focus. Additionally, 20% stated they had difficulty finding NYU students with that same interest.
Health Promotion and Wellness Services at SHC is sponsoring a listserv so that you can communicate with other students who might have similar interests, needs and ideas related to socializing. Send a blank email to join-swos@forums.nyu.edu if you would like to be added to the listserv. What comes next is up to you. Maybe you use the listserv to meet other students and you socialize in a way that works for you. Maybe you decide you would like to help Health Promotion and Wellness Services expand this effort beyond the listserv and you call us at (212) 443-1234 to express that interest. Maybe you tell some friends about the web page so they can check it out. Whatever you do, remember that if you would like to socialize in ways that do not make substance use the primary focus, you have quite a bit of company. Who knew? Thanks for visiting!
