CLOTHESLINE PROJECT WORKSHOPS

NYU students - make a statement!
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and this is your chance to help raise awareness. Throughout the week of April 9th, the Sexual Assault Peer Educators from the Health Promotion Office will be facilitating The Clothesline Project workshops. The Clothesline Project provides survivors of sexual violence and their allies with an outlet for expression, and also serves as a way to educate the community about the issue of sexual violence on campus. The Clothesline Project provides a source of support and inspiration to those who are trying to acknowledge their own abuse and begin a healing process. Creating a shirt is a step in the healing process. Each shirt is the courageous voice of a survivor or ally who is breaking the silence. T-shirts and art supplies will be provided free.

The shirts will be displayed in the Kimmel Center lobby from April 16-20, 2012.

The different colored t-shirts correspond to specific types of violence:

Green or Blue:Represents a survivor of sexual abuse or incest
Red, Pink or Orange:Represents a survivor of rape and/or sexual assault
Purple or Lavender:Represents a survivor of an attack because of sexual orientation
White:Represents a person who died because of violence
Yellow or Beige:Represents a battered or assaulted woman
Black:Represents a woman attacked for political reasons
