October 26, 2009 - Here's a riddle for you: Which has more sugar; a cup of juice or a cup of soda? The answer may surprise you: 8 ounces of apple juice has 29 grams of sugar, and 8 ounces of soda has 27 grams of sugar. Those "healthy" juices might not be so sweet for your body. If you're drinking multiple servings, those sugar calories can add up fast. Try switching some servings of fruit juice with actual fruit-there are fewer calories, more nutrients, and the fiber will help you to stay fuller, longer. Need to stock up? Visit the Union Square Greenmarket for a great selection of fresh, locally grown produce. For a list of green markets throughout the city and to learn which fruits and vegetables are in season and available, visit the Natural Resources Defense Council.
