October 19, 2009 - What's the best way to get a good night's sleep? Turn down the heat in your apartment! Scientists think that cooler temperatures might help lower the body's core temperature, which contributes to restful sleep. When you're turning yourself in for the night, try keeping the temperature in your room between 60-68 degrees Fahrenheit - anything higher or lower might contribute to unwanted tossing and turning. If restful sleep continues to be a struggle for you, the Student Health Center offers a self improvement course specifically devoted to fighting insomnia. For more information and a list of available workshops on sleep and other topics, visit the Counseling and Behavioral Health Services Groups and Toolkits page or call (212) 998-4780.

Also, be sure to check out the Relaxation Oasis stress-reduction and mindfulness tools which can contribute to a more relaxed state and restful night’s sleep

Thought for the week: Lower temperature = higher quality sleep. Maybe you'd better start counting polar bears!
