Each Monday provides a fresh start and gives us the opportunity to plan the week ahead. Mondays focus our attention on goals and weekly to-do's which is why it’s also a great day to do something healthy like taking the stairs, getting more sleep, setting a limit on alcohol use - decisions that can pay off all week and longer. So, at the beginning of every week, the SHC will post a Monday motivator, a brief health-enhancing action step which you can apply to school, work, relationships and life, Monday - and every other day of the week.

November 2, 2009 - Is school-related stress keeping you awake at night? Breathing exercises may help you calm down enough to fall asleep: take deep breaths in through your nose, breathing in for three seconds, and then out for three seconds. Concentrate on your breathing, instead of your worries.
If you need to talk to someone, the Wellness Exchange is always available by phone (212-443-9999) or email. If you have some time during the day, the Health Promotion Office offers daily programs, such as Wind-Down Wednesdays (free backrubs) and Tranquil Thursdays (meditative yoga), that can help you relax. Finally, Counseling and Behavioral Health Services offers free sleep workshops. Call (212) 998-4780 for more details or click here.
Thought for the week: There’s more to sleep than counting sheep; learn to breathe deep and relax your mind.
