Monday Matters

Archived Tips

Each Monday provides a fresh start and gives us the opportunity to plan the week ahead. Mondays focus our attention on goals and weekly to-do's which is why it’s also a great day to do something healthy like taking the stairs, getting more sleep, setting a limit on alcohol use - decisions that can pay off all week and longer. So, at the beginning of every week, the SHC will post a Monday motivator, a brief health-enhancing action step which you can apply to school, work, relationships and life, Monday - and every other day of the week.

November 16, 2009 - Sprained ankles represent some of the most common injuries - unfortunately, so do sprained ankle complications. Even if pain deceptively subsides quickly, significant damage may have already been done. If you suspect a sprain, immediately rest the injured ankle, wrap it with a bandage, combat inflammation with ice, and elevate it above the heart. Head to the NYU Student Health Center and have someone check it out asap. If you’re really in a rush, you can arrange a "walk-in" assessment in Primary Care - no appointment required.

Thought for the week: Quickly taking appropriate action may prevent further injuries later down the line.
