Vaccinations are our best protection against contracting the flu. It is recommended that students obtain both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccinations this year. While the seasonal flu vaccination protects against the seasonal flu, it will not provide protection against the H1N1 virus. This means that people will need to get two vaccinations this flu season. Vaccinations will be available at the Student Health Center (see "How to Obtain Flu Vaccine at the Student Health Center" below) and through several Flu Vaccine Clinics around campus (see below).

Vaccinations are especially important for those individuals at higher risk for complications resulting from the flu. These include:

  • Any pregnant student
  • Any student less than 24 yrs of age
  • Any student (25-64) with a chronic high risk condition
  • Any student who is taking care of an infant less than 6 months of age
  • Any student who is a health care worker and has patient care responsibilities

H1N1 Vaccine: The Student Health Center is offering H1N1 vaccine according to both federal and local health department's defined priorities and distribution schedule.

H1N1 vaccines are free. Seasonal flu vaccines are free for students covered under one of the NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance plans. For students covered under any other insurance plans, the fee for seasonal flu vaccine is $10. Both H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccines are free of charge at outreach events throughout campus.

Like other health care facilities, the NYU Student Health Center has received only an initial allotment of our order of H1N1 vaccine. The injectable H1N1 vaccine will be used primarily for those individuals with specific conditions and risk factors for whom nasal spray can not be given. Both vaccines are effective and safe. For more information on H1N1 vaccine please read the following:
