The SHC is unique among student health centers in the country in that we are able to offer our students vision care and retail optical services.
Students spend a great deal of time in classes, in front of a computer screens and reading books. All these activities can put a strain on your eyes. We offer contact lenses and a large selection of eyeglasses and sunglasses, including many designer frames, at the Student Health Center.
Making sure your eyes are healthy and that you have good vision is part of a good preventive health regime. As a rule, if you aren't experiencing any eye trouble, don't have a chronic illness and have no family history, a routine eye exam is recommended every two years. If you do have a chronic illness, such as diabetes, it is important to have your eyes examined once a year.
If your needs are routine, our optometry service is staffed by optometrists and opticians whose expertise ranges from vision correction, treatment of eye disorders, contact lens fittings and assisting in choosing the right eyewear for your specific prescription and needs.
Our optometric and retail services are available to faculty and staff as well.
Call us for an appointment or stop in and see our large selection of eyewear and eyecare products.
If you already have a prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses from your outside Provider, you can bring in your prescription or have it faxed to us at 212-443-1261.
If you have a medical (eye/vision) emergency when we are closed, call NYU Public Safety at 212-998-2222, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room. Locations in Manhattan include:
