HIV Testing & Counseling Services is part of the Primary Care Services Department at SHC. Individuals can gather educational materials, undergo confidential testing, speak with a healthcare professional regarding any HIV-related issue in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
HIV Testing & Counseling Services are available at no cost to all NYU students and to faculty and staff for occupational injuries. Knowing your HIV status is the first step in getting information and taking action to stay healthy.
HIV Testing & Counseling includes two visits/appointments - the pre- and post-test. HIV results will not be given to you by phone, mail or email. You must meet an HIV Counselor in person to obtain your test results.
HIV testing may also be performed within the context of a visit with your Primary Care Provider, Women's Health or Men's Health provider, for routine STI testing.
Confidentiality
Confidential test results, and your conversation with your provider, will become part of your medical record and will remain on file only at the Student Health Center (SHC). This information cannot be shared with anyone, including your family, friends, faculty or staff at NYU unless you sign the NYC Department of Health mandated HIV-Related Information release form Authorization for Release of Medical Information and Confidential HIV-Related Information (PDF).
