Important Information Regarding the Cost of Contraceptives
Due to the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, effective January 1, 2007, pharmaceutical manufacturers are no longer able to provide large discounts on contraceptives to entities such as the Student Health Center (SHC). This has forced the SHC to increase contraceptive prices. In an effort to lessen the impact of this dramatic price increase, the Student Health Center will dispense the affected brands of contraceptives at the wholesale price. The American College Health Association, of which the Student Health Center is a member, will be advocating for and exploring possible solutions with legislative staffers on Capitol Hill in the coming weeks. There are birth control pills that are available as generics and we encourage you to speak with your health care provider about possible alternatives if you are looking for a lower cost option.
We regret this inconvenience and will continue to look for ways to lessen the impact of this increase.
