On February 21, 2006, The NYU Student Health Center (SHC) announced the implementation of a new program, the Medical Emergency Fund. The Fund aims to assist full-time graduate students at NYU who have significant financial hardship caused by unusually large medical expenses. The Student Health Center provides applicants medical financial counseling and assists them in accessing additional resources including the Medical Emergency Fund, if necessary.

This program is a result of feedback from students and our own experience at the Health Center - that students sometimes face financial hardship due to unforeseen, catastrophic illness that exceeds their insurance.

NYU continually assesses its programs to find innovative ways to meet changing healthcare needs. With the Medical Emergency Fund program, we are able to assist full-time graduate students who might otherwise be unable to continue their studies because of an unanticipated financial burden due to serious illness or injury.
