The NYU Wellness Exchange, Student Health Center and Health Promotion Office work closely with campus and community partners to develop highly visible programs that encourage students to make safer, smarter choices about alcohol use. We also strongly support students who choose not to drink.
The cornerstone of our efforts is the three-hour, two-part online course called AlcoholEdu® for College that all incoming first year students are required to complete. The course provides students with information about high-risk drinking behaviors and associated harms, including tools for planning and hosting safer social gatherings. Students will receive an email in early February with more detailed information and instructions.
AlcoholEdu® for College is a non-opinionated, science-based course taken by hundreds of thousands of students each year. The course aims not to preach but rather to teach the facts about alcohol and its effects on the mind and body.
Whether or not you drink, AlcoholEdu® for College empowers students to make well-informed decisions and provides some simple strategies to help keep you and your friends safe.
AlcoholEdu® for College offers a confidential, personalized experience for each student. The two-part course includes:
- Alcohol-related content featuring videos, blogs, IM chats, comics, and more
- Helpful tools, like a BAC calculator and map of US laws
- Discussions on policies and issues related to alcohol
- Safe partying strategies and tips for helping a friend
