At the Student Health Center (SHC), we understand that your health is a vital part of your academic experience. Our staff of highly trained clinicians is here to help meet your healthcare needs. Unless you are ill, schedule a complete physical exam as your first visit to the SHC. If you are ill or require urgent medical attention (click here for information about acute care/urgent needs), call 212-443-1120 to speak with a nurse or call 212-443-1000 for an appointment.
How do I make an appointment?
Schedule an appointment for an annual physical by calling 212-443-1000 or online through the NYU Life tab of NYU Home. Please be courteous of your fellow classmates and arrive on time for your appointment. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please call us at 212-443-1000 or cancel online through the NYU Life tab of NYU Home. Your provider will appreciate your courtesy, as will other patients waiting to be seen.
How do I know where to go?
When you make your appointment, you will be instructed to go to either the 3rd or 4th Floor of 726 Broadway.
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring your NYU ID and your health insurance card with you. Be prepared to answer questions about your health, habits, use of medication and/or home remedies and known allergies. Women may be asked if they could be pregnant to ensure that medical care (x-rays, medications, etc) will not pose risks to a developing fetus. You may feel embarrassed or uncomfortable discussing some issues with your provider. Our staff is here to listen and help. It is vital that you be as open and honest as possible.
What should I ask my provider?
It is important to take an active role and responsibility for your healthcare. We strongly encourage you to ask questions, inquire why certain tests are ordered, how some medications may affect you or interact with others or when to seek follow-up care. You can speak freely with your provider about personal matters or feelings that concern you and let them know if there is something you do not understand.
Will my parents or professors know that I was here?
Confidentiality is a priority at the SHC. We do not share your medical information with anyone without your written consent.
What does it cost to see a doctor?
Routine primary care and women's health provider assessments are no cost. Please ask your provider about costs associated with any tests ordered or procedures done during the visit.
