Strategic Assessment

Making NYU the Best Managed University.

Our goal is to make NYU the best managed university by combining the practice of strategic analysis with capital planning and fiscal management in order to create a comprehensive approach to implementing best practices across all of NYU's administrative functions.

Strategic Analysis

The strategic analysis process uses core data related to NYU's administrative practices to discover opportunities for improvement and suggest ways by which NYU can implement best practices. The strategic assessment process begins by examining where we are today. In subsequent phases, strategic analysis asks where it is we want to go and concludes by mapping a path to get there.

In the first phase, we determine data points that describe the current environment, compare present practices with benchmark information when available, identify best practices, and  then compare our operations to those best practices.

In the second phase and third phases, the strategic assessment team is available to work with leadership to set targets and develop a plan to meet those targets. Finally, we are available to review the progress towards those goals.

Capital Planning

Our office is also responsible for preparing the financial models for NYU's capital plan in order to support the Budget Office's development of the University Financial plan. Working with the Planning and Design teams, we develop the financial models for capital planning initiatives and work with the Budget Office to make sure the financial models are accurately reflected in the University's financial plan.

Fiscal Management

Our office serves as  a fiscal office for many of the administrative units that report to the office of the Executive Vice President. In this capacity, we are able to insure that resource allocation supports the strategic objective of the Executive Vice President's office and provide data and analysis to support key decision making.

Education and Communications

Finally our office, working with our partners in the Office of Learning and Development, promulgates information and education about best practices and good management. We do so by promoting dialogue between university leadership and thought leaders in the field of management. We also promote communication and learning about best practices by reaching out to NYU's financial leaders individually and in groups to discuss our team's work and thinking in the field of management and excellence.
