Michael Jones recently finished working with 2011 Fellow Shalena Krumm on a project to restructure The Ya-Ya Network (Youth Allies – Youth Activists), a small non-profit dedicated to social justice issues, from the ground up. Together with the Executive Director and Shalena, Michael helped create summer and academic year programs for youth, designed a new curriculum, and recruited a full set of staff members and 30 participants from the NYC area. The program officially re-launched in July, 2012.
Currently Michael is working at The Rose and Sherle Wagner Foundation, which supports community organizing and locally based social justice efforts. In addition, Michael is laying the ground work to launch his own project, a hybrid for-profit/non-profit halfway house and business for young adults aging out of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. The project will be located in Michael’s hometown of Asheville, North Carolina.
Michael graduated with honors in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Public Policy and Administration.
