Tamara Porras will be teaching Special Education in a Brooklyn public school as a 2008 Teach for America corps member. She is spending the summer training for the fall while teaching a 4th grade mandated summer school class at PS. 1.

While working to help close the achievement gap, Tamara will be developing a curriculum that uses photography and visual literacy to stimulate the development of literacy and critical thinking skills for K-12 students. She will also be continuing her personal photography work exploring the gentrification and development of Brooklyn through its urban landscape.
