Caroline Weinberg is pursuing a career in pediatrics with a focus on preventative health care through outreach and patient education.

Caroline committed herself to the field of medicine early in life and has expanded her ambitions to include community outreach and public health. As a physician, she hopes both to treat patients and to empower them to play a more effective role in their own health care through health education.

Caroline first developed an interest in health education as a freshman at the University of Virginia where she organized and led outreaches on topics ranging from drug use and sexual health to nutrition and depression. Her growing awareness of the extreme disparities in education and health care throughout America led to an internship with the Charlottesville Free Clinic. There she discovered a way to pair her hopes for equality in health care with her experience in outreach.

After graduating, Caroline worked as an intern in Washington Heights with Healthy Schools, Healthy Families developing an initiative to identify and treat elementary school students suffering from asthma. This program aimed to give students access to health care and to educate their parents on how to control their asthma.

In medical school, Caroline founded a new health outreach program serving the adolescent population at Bellevue -Reach Out NY- where medical interns received specialized training to educate clinic patients on safe sex practices.

In the future, Caroline hopes to expand this program to other populations and to broaden its focus beyond safe sex to include other health issues, working towards the goal of education as a standard part of patient care.
