Pablo Halkyard is interested in the role of social enterprise in international development. He plans to explore the potential of leveraging market-based approaches to poverty reduction and development.
Originally from Chile, Pablo was born in Brasilia, Brazil and has also lived in India, Denmark, England, the United States, Peru and Ecuador. Pablo has a B.S. in International Economics with concentrations in International Commerce and Finance and International Business Diplomacy from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
Prior to joining Stern, Pablo was a Development Analyst in the World Bank's Private Sector Development Vice-Presidency and the Chief Economist's Office of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). His work focused on public policy issues related to improving the business environment in emerging markets, enhancing the private sector's contribution to alleviating poverty, and increasing aid effectiveness.
His research projects included topics such as energy and infrastructure regulation, South-South investment flows, micro-finance, bottom-ofthe- pyramid approaches to growth and job creation, public-private partnerships, conflict-affected countries and prediction markets. He was also the creator and lead author of the World Bank's first blog, http://psdblog.worldbank.org/.
Pablo is currently Vice-President of Stern's Social Enterprise Association and Entrepreneurs' Exchange club.
