-Mattress pad
-Alarm clock (test them, make sure they are loud enough for you)
-Lamp for reading by your bed

-Land line phone (free local calls, call waiting, answering service and caller ID)
-Posters
-Lots of batteries
-Stamps
-Stationary and envelopes
-Stapler and staples
-Scotch tape
-LOTS of hangars
-Laundry basket (something easily portable)

-Printer (preferably color, with scanning and copying abilities)
-Drying rack
-Lint remover
-Scissors
-Computer cable lock (NYU is safe, but it’s better to be safe than sorry)
-Small travel suitcase, maybe with wheels, for weekend trips home
-Calculator for basic functions
-Your personal play collection for easy access to monologues and scenes for class

MAYBE

-Trash can (some buildings already come with them)
-Desk Lamp (some rooms have them attached to the desks)

-Dust buster/Vaccuum (many halls have one at the resource center at the front desk--check out before you bring one)
-Extra wool blanket for winter
-Sleeping bag or inflatable mattress for guests (you’re in new york, everyone will be crashing on your floor)
-Area rug (most of NYU has carpeting, but colorful rugs can liven up your room)
-Slippers
-Tall floor lamp (some rooms can be a little dark, nice to have some extra light)
-Shoe rack (if you know you’ll definitely use it)
-Over the door organizers for closet (again, if you know you’ll definitely use it)
-TV (be sure to plan this with your roommates so you don’t all bring them)
-Microwave (ditto)
-Iron and ironing board (ditto)
-Folding comfortable chair
-Earplugs (if you’re a really light sleeper)

DON’T!

-Under the bed storage containers, as 3rd North has built-in drawers under the bed

-Computer chair (provided)
-Desk lamp (comes attached to the desk already)
-Answering machine
-Candles
-Incense
-Halogen lamps
-Trunk that doesn’t fit under the bed (no room!)
-Full-length mirror (as far as I know every dorm room already has one)
-Furniture

BATHROOM

DO

-Razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deoderant, etc. (buy all of this at home, it’s probably a lot cheaper)
-Bathroom cleaning supplies (glass cleaner, toilet cleaner, sponges, tub cleaner)
-Bath mat that can be washed
-At least 2 towels

MAYBE

-Shower bucket. If there is more than 4 people sharing one bathroom, not everyone can store their stuff in there. 4 or less, forget the bucket.
-In the shower or under the sink storage unit for supplies
-Pretty toilet cover
-Toilet plunger (you could just wait for maintenance to plunge it or do it yourself)
-Scale
-Toothbrush holder
-Shower curtain (one is provided, if you want something fun bring your own)

DON’T!

-Attachable towels racks (provided)

CLOTHES

-Enough underwear to go 2 weeks without washing
-Sweatpants/sports bras/things you can move around in to African dance
-Black t-shirt and black pants (for when you have to crew a show)
-Random articles of clothing you feel would make good costumes for scenes
-Only bring clothes to college that you have worn in the last year and you’re 100% positive (other than potential costumes) that you’ll wear it again
-Warm winter coat
-COMFORTABLE shoes (one night my freshman year I was walking around in these really hot but really uncomfortable shoes, and one of my toes ended up going numb and stayed that way for a month because I had messed up a nerve. That’s NYC walking for ya)
-Unless you’re taking outside dance classes, at PHTS you DO NOT need any dance shoes

KITCHEN (Only for 3rd North and U-Hall)
