Residential Education provides trained professional and paraprofessional staff to help meet the goals and values of our department and to help our students succeed. Assistant Vice President for Residential Education
The Assistant Vice-President (AVP) provides strategic leadership to the Department of Residential Education. The AVP develops and directs the implementation of University wide student learning initiatives and programs in residence halls. This person also works with schools and colleges throughout the University to enhance the learning environment outside the classroom and develop learning initiatives.
Director of Community Development
The Director of Community Development oversees residence life programs and student services for graduate and undergraduate students in the residence halls. The Director of Community Development supervises the community development staff and oversees programs in the areas of personal growth, leadership development, and community development.
Assistant Director of Community Development
The Assistant Directors for Community Development (ADCD) oversee operations and activities for their assigned area of residence halls (Uptown, Downtown, FYRE). The ADCDs supervise a staff of Community Development Educators and provide support in the development and implementation of a variety of students programs and services.
Community Development Educator
The Community Development Educators (CDE) administer community development services and programs for their assigned residence hall. The CDEs supervise the Resident Assistant staff, provide crisis intervention, counseling and “on-duty” coverage for residents. The CDE also advises students and collaborates with staff and faculty to create living and learning communities that enrich the students University experience.
Assistant Community Development Educator
The Assistant Community Development Educator (ACDE) assists with the administration of community development services and programs for the University’s larger residential housing units. ACDEs are located in Water Street, Lafayette, Weinstein, Third North, and Palladium residence halls.
Community Education Assistant
The Community Education Assistants (CEA) are graduate students assisting with the delivery of services and programs. CEAs also assist the CDE with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community development programs. CEAs are located in Brittany, Hayden, Rubin, Alumni, Coral, Carlyle, and University Hall.
Resident Assistant
Resident Assistants (RAs) are student paraprofessional staff members living on individual floors and in assigned areas in each residence hall. RAs are usually the first resource for residents concerning roommate relations, programming information, referrals to other offices or staff, or general information about the University, the city or the neighborhood. An on-call RA is available when necessary to provide continuous coverage.
Peer Educator In Residence
The Peer Educators are full-time students, with sophomore standing or higher, who live in an undergraduate residence hall and serve as a resource, referral agent, educator, and role model for the students of the community. Peer Educators are located in Brittany, Hayden, Rubin, Third North, University Hall, Greenwich, and Lafayette residence halls.
Director of Academic Development
The Director for Academic Development oversees academic programs within the Department of Residential Education. This person develops faculty led academic focused programs and peer led education programs to enhance the life of the community and the mind for NYU resident students. The Director of Academic Development also conducts assessment activities for programs and services.
Assistant Director for Academic Development
The Assistant Director for Academic Development (ADAD) manages the implementation of academic programs for undergraduate residential students. This person serves as department liaison to identify, recruit, and select faculty affiliates for the Explorations program. The ADAD also provides leadership training and resources to students and professional staff members in the area of creating intellectual and academic-focused living environment.
Assistant Director for Residential Staff Development
The Assistant Director for Residential Staff Development manages the selection and reappointment process for Resident Assistants and Community Educator Assistants. This person oversees the student staff appraisal process, coordinates the Resident Assistant Leadership Institute (RALI), and implements training programs that reflect the mission of the Department and University.
Assistant Director for Residential Leadership
The Assistant Director for Residential Leadership advises the Inter-Residence Hall Council and supervises the Peer Education program. This person designs and implements leadership development programs for residential students and assists with the planning and implementation of a variety of initiatives sponsored by Residential Education
Director of Administration
The Director of Administration oversees the administrative and operational aspects of the Department, with specific supervision of the Departmental budget and fiscal affairs, personnel and human resources, network and technology, student services, student judicial affairs, and policy development. This person also serves as the Departmental investigative officer for complaints made under the NYU Anti-Harassment policy.
Assistant Director of Residential Student Services
The Assistant Director Residential Student Services (ADRSS) oversees crisis management and follow-through activities for incidents occurring in the residence halls. The ADRSS provides support and individual consideration to students with special needs or requiring an accommodation. This person also investigates problems and develops intervention strategies in responding to emergency and conflict situations.
Assistant Director for Judicial Affairs
The Assistant Director for Residential Judicial Affairs (ADJA) manages the judicial affairs program for residential students. The ADJA provides supervision and support to the Community Development staff in their judicial responsibilities. This person collects and maintains student disciplinary records and coordinates educational sanctions and the campus service program.
Judicial Affairs and 13th Street Community Development Educator
The Community Development Educator for Judicial Affairs assists in the administration of the residential judicial process. In addition to overseeing the Thirteenth Street Residence Hall, this person conducts judicial hearings, provides support to the CDE staff in their judicial responsibilities, and advises the NYU Student Peer Board.
