RALI is a mandatory part of the RA selection process.
RALI is an exciting opportunity for the Office of Residential Life and Housing Services to get a chance to see the “real you” over a period of time rather than a short interview process. RALI will take place over the course of three weeks. You will elect the section of RALI that best fits your academic schedule. It is expected that you attend each of the meeting times. The class will be facilitated by representatives from the Office of Residential Life and Housing Services. These facilitators may include Residence Hall Directors (RHD), Residence Hall Assistant Directors (RHAD) and current Resident Assistants.
RALI will include, among other things:
- An introduction to the goals and objectives of Residential Life
- Observation of candidates’ (potential) leadership, interpersonal/communication and decision-making skills
- Discussion and activities about confrontation, assertiveness, values and diversity
- Strategies for community building in the residence halls, and
- An introduction to college student development theories
- An individual interview
You will have a chance to express your ideas and skills through classroom discussion, activities, homework assignments, an on-line portfolio and a one-on-one interview.
Please Note: Attendance in these classes does not constitute an offer or guarantee of an RA position.
