What is the Graduate RA Renumeration?

Current remuneration for the Graduate RA position is a “housing/dining grant” that is equal to the cost of room and board each semester.

If you’re in a program that requires other outside work, do you frown on that?

As you can imagine, we prefer that a staff member does not have substantial outside work because we expect the staff position to be their primary responsibility outside of the classroom. But, if it is tied to one’s academic program, we will work with anyone in this type of situation who is offered a Graduate RA position. You should be very upfront on your application regarding such a situation and discuss it with Residential Education professional staff member with whom you will interview in the Spring.

Do the Graduate RA applicants attend the RA Leadership Institute?

No, they don’t. The selection process for Graduate RA is an entirely separate process.

I am interested in becoming a Graduate RA. However, I was wondering if I have to wait to be admitted into a graduate program at NYU, before applying. In other words, I would like to apply for the Graduate RA position and admission into NYU grad school at the same time. Is this ok?

Yes, you may be awaiting word of your acceptance into a graduate program and still take part in our selection process. Your acceptance of either a Graduate RA or Graduate RA alternate position will be predicated upon your successful matriculation at NYU.
