How many credits do I have to take to be an RA or an CEA?

You must be a full-time student (Undergraduate: 12 or more credit hours/Graduate: 9 or more credit hours) to be an RA.

What is the required GPA to become an RA or CEA?

The Undergraduate RA position requires a 2.75 GPA throughout employment.

The Graduate RA job requires a 3.0 GPA throughout employment.

Is the GPA requirement flexible, say a 2.65?

No, the standard is very strict.  An RA cannot serve with a 2.749 GPA.  While an RA candidate may participate in the RALI with a lower GPA, it must meet or rise above the minimum by the time they start as a staff member.

Is the GPA requirement just a qualifying component?

No, this requirement must be maintained throughout an RA’s tenure with us as such.

What about medical and dental students? GPAs, some classes are yearlong and their grades aren't assigned for 7 months?

This has arisen as an issue in the past and, speaking with the various Dean’s offices, we have been told that professional students’ GPAs are determined just as any other student’s and that we should not hold them to a lesser standard.
