Can I apply for the RA Position if I am studying abroad for the Spring semester?

The Resident Assistant Leadership Institute (RALI) will be offered to Spring study abroad students and Abu Dhabi RA candidates in November (see the time line). You will be able to sign up for this RALI as you submit your on-line application.

What if I’ll be studying abroad the entire academic year before the year I’d like to be an RA? Can I still apply?

Unfortunately, if you’ll be away from New York during both the Fall and Spring semesters when the RALI is offered, you are not eligible to submit an application and take part in the RA selection process.

As a current Washington Square student, can I participate in the November RALI if I'm not studying broad or from out of town?

No. This offering is open only to study abroad students who must provide documentation confirming their participation in a study abroad program and those applicants who do not live in the New York Metro area. As well, candidates for the Abu Dhabi RA position must go through the November process.

If you are studying abroad this Spring, is the application deadline different?

Yes, it is. To be eligible to take part in the November RALI as a Spring study abroad student you must submit the on-line application by deadline on the time line page.

I plan on studying abroad in either the Fall or Spring academic term; can I still apply for an RA position?

We feel that studying abroad can be a very important part of your education and we encourage students to take advantage of such opportunities. We are also equally cognizant of the centrality of the Resident Assistant’s role in the development and maintenance of community and interpersonal relationships on their floors and in their buildings.  For this reason, we ask for a full year commitment from all candidates who are offered RA positions.  We encourage Residential Life student staff to take advantage of study abroad opportunities over the Summer months.

Can I apply for a position as an RA at a study abroad site?

NYU's study abroad sites do not have RA positions for current undergraduates. However, some of the study abroad sites do hire qualified students to serve as Peer Advisors. Peer Advisor are responsible for a variety of duties that promote the cultural and academic growth and personal well-being of students studying at NYU's global sites. Among other responsibilities, Peer Advisors conduct programs and facilitate clubs, serve as a role models and information resources to students, report student issues to supervisors, work in the Office of Student Life, offer support at NYU-sponsored events, attend meetings with the Office of Student Life staff, undertake administrative tasks and perform other duties as assigned. If you are interested in learning more about a position, you should contact the Office of Global Programs at 212.998.4433 or abroad.admissions@nyu.edu to request more information. Students interested in serving as RAs at NYU Abu Dhabi are asked to register for the November RALI.
