Address
The building is located at 80 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10013. It is on the west side of the street, between White and Franklin Streets. The building is 16 stories high, housing 1080 residents. The 80 Lafayette block also houses a bagel store and a nail salon, all under the same superintendent.
Nearby Attractions and Proximity to Campus
80 Lafayette is located on the edge of Chinatown and Tribeca. Technically, our zip code is Tribeca, leading some residents to call the neighborhood “Chibeca”. The building is 2 ½ blocks south of Canal Street, near the 6, N, R, Q, W, J, M, and Z trains. It is less than a 5 minute walk south to the Manhattan courthouses, City Hall, and the Brooklyn Bridge (and the 4/5 subway stop).
A student can walk to the main campus in approximately 15-20 minutes and NYU buses run every 20 minutes during class times. Broome Street residence hall is a 5 minute walk, and Water Street is a 10-12 minute walk.
Chinatown is a vibrant neighborhood with many cheap places to eat and things to buy, making it ideal for the student budget. Students who take the time to explore the neighborhood grow to enjoy it. Others may be resistant. Forbes magazine ranked the 10013 zip code in Tribeca as the 12th most expensive zip code in the United States in 2006. The Tribeca neighborhood houses several great restaurants, hosts the Tribeca Film Festival in April-May, and offers close access to many corporate offices in Lower Manhattan.
