Welcome to Founders Hall, NYU’s newest residence hall opening in May, 2009! Built on the site of the former St. Ann’s church, the historic façade and fence have been preserved as an architectural feature as you enter the building. Located in the Union Square/East Village area of NYC, as a brand new hall, Founders will be the home to over 700 first-year students, 25 Resident Assistants (RAs), and several live-in professional staff. All staff living in the hall will serve as amazing resources to residents and will be working hard to help build strong communities on all floors and throughout the building. With 26 floors, Founders features a large outdoor courtyard, a community garden, two TV lounges, one study lounge, WiFi access throughout the lobby and lounges, recycling/trash rooms on every floor, a laundry room, and energy and sustainability focused features.
As part of the First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program, Founders’ residents will get the opportunity to participate in activities designed to support them in the transition to college, as well as getting to know one another and exploring all of the great things that NYU and New York City has to offer. In addition to this, the theme for the year will be centered on Public Interest and what our role is within the NYC community. Founders is also the home to two Explorations communities: Politics in Action and NYU C.O.R.P.S, which each have their own Faculty Affiliate who works closely with the floor and the floor’s theme. We also have one Faculty Fellow in Residence (FFiR) who lives in the hall and plans programs and opportunities to meet and engage with residents. Throughout the year there will be many chances to get involved in community service, a book club, and the 3D series: Dinner, Dialogue and Documentaries, to name a few. Residents can also participate in Hall Council, our very own hall government where you can run for an elected position or serve on the general council. We look forward to spending the very first year of Founders Hall with you, where it’s just the beginning!
