Room assignments are made by New York University on the basis of the legal sex of the student, which is the sex assigned to the student at birth. However, students now have the option of requesting a room assignment based on gender identity, which is the gender a student identities with that may be different from the sex assigned to that student at birth. If a student selects this option, we will see to place the student in a room or suite with others of the same gender identity who have requested a room assignment on this basis, however, placement is not guaranteed. If such housing is not possible, legal sex will be used in determining housing placement in an Explorations community. Please click here for more information about this option. Describe an event that you might plan for your floor which focuses on building community relevant to your preferred theme. The event should not cost more than $100.

Commitment to Explorations:

The Explorations program enhances students' connection to the university and the city. Within that context, students in these programs have a specific responsibility to participate in the intellectual life of the floor. By submitting this application, you are agreeing to participate in the programs and activities provided to you by your RA, Faculty Affiliate and peers. A minimum of one program per month is required by all community members.

	I understand that an Explorations community assignment will dictate my housing placement. The building location is listed with the community description. Room configurations in each building may vary and can be found at www.nyu.edu/housing. This application voids other housing requests (with the exception of other special interest housing applications on which you may state your prioritized request).
	Success of programs, such as the Explorations communities, is dependent on the participation of its members. I understand that students living in Explorations communities are expected to participate in the activities facilitated by members of faculty and staff, which are scheduled approximately once per month.
	I understand that every effort is made to assign students to their first choice of community, but I will be considered for every community I list as a preference. I have carefully considered the community to which you would like to be assigned and have preferenced only those communities which interest me.
