The Senior House at NYU is a new residential initiative that intentionally places students into a community where living and learning is dynamic and constant. The focus of this living learning community is to provide a community focused around the Senior Year experience.
Hallmarks of the Senior House will include:

  • Providing Senior students a living environment focused around the idea and experience of being a Senior at New York University
  • Transitioning Seniors from undergraduate life to the next stage of their lives
  • Encouraging Seniors to reflect and act upon what they have and have not experienced at New York University and also in New York City

The University Court Residence Hall has been selected as the location for Senior House, a smaller hall designed to provide more opportunity to know your neighbors and build better relationships.  At the Senior House, you will experience hallmarks such as trips to the surrounding boroughs, personalized career services from the Wasserman Center, resources for thesis work such as an onsite copy machine, unique links to the Senior Class Council, and the Senior Year themed programming.  We expect that students will not only build community within the Senior House, but also be able to have a capstone experience to make the Senior Year their best year yet at NYU!
The Senior House will have expanded self governance privileges through their Hall Council, such as an extended guest policy.  There will be the opportunity for special offers to different Senior events at NYU.  Students can also request to be near up to 11 of their friends in special room clustering in which students not only can request room mates, but also for friends to be placed near them on the same floor.

Two Senior Resident Assistants and two Graduate Student Resident Assistants in the Senior House will be selected based on a number of criteria, but also will receive specific training on the components of a successful and satisfying senior year.  These Resident Assistants (RAs) are a senior or graduate student leader who lives in the community and provides a wide range of social and intellectual programs, as well as individual assistance for any issues that may arise during your time.

The Senior House is an exciting new living learning community in which we hope you will become involved! All rising Senior residents interested in having an experienced tailored to their final year of undergraduate life at NYU are invited to apply for the Senior House. Research repeatedly supports that the degree to which a student persists and succeeds in a university setting is directly related to the establishment of a community and culture of learning across the campus. The Department of Residential Education recognizes that a student's learning is an on-going process, not bounded by the confines of traditional class time and space, and realizes that the array of experiences outside of the traditional classroom are a haven for the application of classroom theory, experiential learning, and life skill development.  This unique living option, not only incorporates these ideals, but also celebrates the Senior Year of an NYU student.
