Mission Statement
Our goal is to enhance international student life in the residence halls at NYU. We hope to help international students experience a smooth transition into the United States by providing opportunities for peer interaction, assisting with integration to U.S. society, and helping students stay linked to their own culture while connecting to the greater NYU community.
In order to achieve these goals, we will conduct on-going dialogue sessions, provide support at the hall level through RA involvement, and organize social events which foster the welcoming environment we hope to create.
With these goals and ideals in mind, we embody not only the potential but also the ability to create a positive and enjoyable experience for our international students at NYU.
History
In Fall 2003, the Department of Residential Education launched a new initiative called Residential International Student Engagement (RISE) to connect international students with the greater New York City community; provide support and resources to students; create avenues for social interactions; highlight pertinent issues with administration; facilitate group dialogue on global issues, and encourage staff to advocate on behalf of international students as well as educating them on how to do so.
