The New York University Residential Mentor Program (RMP) is a collaborative initiative amongst all first year and upperclass residence halls. First year students can sign up for a mentor as well, upperclass students living in residence can sign up to serve as a mentor.

The benefits of having a mentor include: having someone to provide guidance and support during the first year of transition to NYU and NYC, knowing someone with whom one can attend programs and socials, having an experienced student to ask questions of relating to professors, classes, and life at NYU. This program is also a leadership opportunity for both mentees and mentors, through both the relationship that can develop and the formal leadership positions offered as a member of the RMP Executive Board.

Benefits of being a mentor include: an opportunity to give back to the NYU community, earning volunteer experience which can be added to one's resume, developing leadership and mentorship skills, and providing a first year student with the support needed to have a successful NYU transition. Additionally, serving as a mentor with the RMP is a stepping-stone to other leadership opportunities which include being a Peer Educator, Resident Assistant, or attaining an internship/job.
