The Explorations program in Residential Education is a network of residence hall communities where students are intentionally placed based upon a common theme that is developed through engaging programs and discussions. These programs and discussions are led in collaboration by faculty members, Resident Assistants (RAs), and Community Development Educators (CDEs) in the residence halls.  Some of these communities also share a common academic course.  Explorations communities are designed to blend living & learning in collaboration with a distinguished NYU faculty member. This program is born out of national research and our belief that positive out-of-the classroom interactions between faculty and undergraduate students greatly enhance the collegiate experience.

1. Do I still need to submit information to NYU Housing if I apply for explorations?
Yes! NYU Housing still needs all of your information in order to guarantee housing. If you are placed onto an Explorations floor, it will act as your official NYU Housing assignment, but the NYU Housing office requires submission of all information and payment from all students.
2. Why should I apply?
Explorations is a program that helps you connect to other students quickly and meaningfully. It also helps you connect to a faculty member outside of the classroom. The programs help you learn about New York and yourself in a unique and creative way!
3. Are the programs mandatory?
We expect that you will attend at least one program a month with your faculty affiliate, but the success of the community will lie on the participation of its members!
4. Is there an additional cost?
No, this program has no additional cost!
5. What is a Faculty Affiliate?
The Faculty Affiliate is an NYU professor who works closely with an Explorations community in planning events and programs and serves as an informal mentor.
