Each year of the FYRE experience there have been some elements that have existed again and again. The following are a list of programs and when they occur.
Sextravaganza
This event is typically hosted by Brittany Hall and strives to educate F.Y.R.E. students about healthy sex and sexual activity. Students are educated and exposed to the realities of sex and ways to protect yourself should you choose to be sexually active.
Mocktoberfest
Typically hosted in Third Avenue North Residence Hall’s courtyard, F.Y.R.E. students are educated about alcohol consumption, ways to reduce harm should a student choose to drink, find alternatives to drinking, and network with other students in the first-year area.
FYRE Fights AIDS
Is a week-long series of programs and events to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic and to raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Specifically, students learn more about what it means to live with HIV and how living with HIV affects various communities differently, learn about service opportunities in NYC related to HIV/AIDS, hear how AIDS affected NYC and arts communities at the onset of the epidemic, and learn about testing and prevention methods that are available at NYU and in NYC.
QJima:
This program consists of an all-day Sunday experience involving group and individual activities that delve into aspects of social justice including race, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. All of these discussions and activities will culminate in the viewing of the Broadway Musical Avenue Q. Following the show there will be a session to process the entire experience as a group motivating everyone into action.
Weekend in...(the city changes each year):
A small collection of F.Y.R.E. students take a trip to through an east coast city to learn about the history of our country and reflect on society and its state today. Typically a faculty member joins the students on this trip.
