Office of Postdoctoral Affairs

Welcome to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at NYU. This office is intended to support, promote and enhance the research career of NYU Postdocs, defined as individuals within five years of receiving their PhD who are not yet on a tenure track. Many postdocs continue their careers at another academic institution after the conclusion of their appointment, however a majority move on to positions in other industries or government. This site contains information about career development, social events and information about relevant university policies and procedures to help postdocs navigate this transitional career period.

Individual Development Plan (IDP)

The NIH encourages reporting of IDPs for graduate students and postdocs. The Office of Postdoc Affairs offers an 8-week course each semester to complete the IDP and encourage thoughtful career planning on the part of all trainees. The course is available for 1-credit (BIOL-GA 3025), but postdocs and students that do not have free credits are encouraged to sign up through the office of postdoc affairs.
