NIH/AHRQ Grant Applications

Electronic Submissions (SF424 R&R)

Revised 01/2010

The vast majority of NIH research grant programs have transitioned to the electronic application format (SF424 R&R, revised 01/2010): http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/424/SF424_RR_Guide_General_Adobe_VerB.pdf

Paper Submissions (PHS 398)

Revised 06/2009

Only applications for Cooperative Agreements and other complex mechanisms, as well as for a Change of Grantee Institution, will routinely use a paper application (PHS 398, revised 06/2009): http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html

For deadlines falling on January 25, 2010, and thereafter, both form applications have been shortened and restructured to reflect agency-wide changes to peer review processes and evaluation review criteria.  These changes were summarized in the NIH Guide notice dated September 16, 2009 (NOT‑OD‑09‑149): http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-09-149.html

For more details on the revised application, see power point presentation titled, "Changes to NIH forms due on or after January 25, 2010" prepared by the Office of Sponsored Programs at: http://www.nyu.edu/osp/training/archive
