Change in Deadlines for All NIH/AHRQ/NIOSH Programs

Effective January 1, 2007

NIH has just announced a major change in standard receipt dates for grant applications submitted to NIH and its sister agencies. The new receipt dates will be effective as of January 1, 2007, and will apply to both paper and electronic applications. This change is prompted by the problems encountered as a result of having very large numbers of incoming electronic grant applications on any single day. Note that the effect of this change is to sort receipt dates by grant mechanism, e.g., R type (research), P type (program project and center), K type (career development), etc., thereby spreading application deadlines throughout the year.

Submissions for Request for Applications (RFAs) and Program Announcements (PAs, PARs, PASs) with special receipt dates continue to be due on the specified dates listed in the Funding Opportunity Announcement.

Please bear in mind, for all electronic submissions, that the following OSP deadlines must be honored to ensure on-time submission of proposals:

  • Notification: notify OSP at least five working days in advance of the posted deadline to allow your Projects Officer to review the program guidelines and identify and test the submission requirements.
  • Proposal “shell” (all forms, budget, budget justification) must be received by OSP at least 72 hours (three full business days) in advance of the posted deadline.
  • Final proposal (all components in final form) must be received by OSP at least 24 hours in advance of the posted deadline (one full business day ahead of the deadline).

NIH has revised its standard receipt dates as follows. The terminology describing submission type (new, renewal, etc.) has also been changed. See below.
