International Students
We welcome international students! International students add to the diversity and breadth of student experience in our classrooms. In fact, New York University has the second highest number of international students in the United States. There are visa requirements (which we describe below), and you will need to give yourself plenty of time in applying so that you can be sure that these formalities are taken care of.
Here’s how it works:
If you are already studying in the United States.
As an international student studying in the US (at NYU or at another university) and have an F-1 or J-1 visa status you do not need to do anything additional.
If you are planning to come to the United States especially to take classes during Winter Session.
As an international student applying from outside of the United States, you will need to register as a full-time Winter Session student. That is, you will need a minimum of 2 points for Winter Session (Most of our courses are 3 or 4 points). Based on the number of points, you will be eligible to apply for an F-1 Visa to the US specifically for Winter Session. Classes are taught in English so it is essential that you feel comfortable enough in English to understand, read, write, and communicate in English. If you do not come from an English-speaking country, you will need to submit TOEFL scores. You will need a minimum score of 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, or 100 on the internet-based test or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum overall score of 7.
Registration Procedures
If you meet the criteria above you should complete and submit the Winter Session 2010 Registration Form along with supporting documents, application fee ($100), and full tuition payment. The cost of each course is located in the course listing, including any additional materials fees. Payments should be submitted to the Office of Special Sessions, Winter Session, 110 E. 14th Street, Lower Level, New York, NY 10003; make check/money order payable to New York University. Credit card payments may be made in person or by fax/mail using the Winter Session Credit Card Authorization Form (part of the Winter Session Registration Form) (Visa is NOT accepted).
Supporting documents required:
- Courses which list a prerequisite require the submission of a transcript which shows completion of the necessary courses.
