Justice Richard J. Goldstone of the Constitutional Court of South Africa will deliver The Fourth Hauser Lecture on International Humanitarian Law on Wednesday, January 22 at the New York University School of Law, Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South at 5:30 PM.
Justice Goldstone will present a lecture on "Justice as a Tool for Peace-Making: Truth Commissions and the International Criminal Tribunal."
An outspoken and universally admired South African Constitutional lawyer, Justice Goldstone has investigated abuses committed by Security Services of South Africa against those who fought apartheid. Since 1994 Justice Goldstone has served on the South African Constitutional Court. He also has served as chairman of the Commission of Inquiry Regarding Public Violence and Intimidation from 1991-1994, and from 1994-1996 as a prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.

The Hauser Lecture by Justice Goldstone is the only open-to-the-public segment of the International Committee of the Red Cross and NYU School of Law's "Fourteenth Annual Seminar for Diplomats on International Humanitarian Law," a seminar specifically designed for diplomats accredited by the United Nations. The seminar will run Wednesday, January 22, and Thursday, January 23, 1997.
The Hauser Lectures are named in honor of Rita E. (J.D '59) and Gustave M. (LL.M '57) Hauser. The Hausers, long-time supporters of NYU School of Law, helped conceive and support the Law School's Global Scholars Program, which generates up to 20 full scholarships each year for leading graduate law students from countries throughout the world.
