New York University School of Law has announced the first Lewis Rudin Distinguished Visiting Professorship Lecture, which will take place on Monday, April 7, 1997 at 5 P.M. at NYU School of Law, 40 Washington Square South.

The inaugural lecture, "Confronting Injustice," will be delivered by Bryan A. Stevenson, founding executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative of Alabama and a visiting professor at NYU School of Law for the 1996-1997 academic year. Stevenson, a passionate opponent of the death penalty, was awarded in 1995 a $230,000 MacArthur Foundation grant.

Lewis Rudin, a native New Yorker, carries on a family tradition begun more than 60 years ago by his builder-philanthropist parents, Samuel and May Rudin. A graduate of NYU, Rudin has served since 1977 as a member of NYU's Board of Trustees.

The Rudin Lecture is a birthday gift from Lewis Rudin's brother, Jack, himself a prominent figure in the world of New York City real estate and construction.

In a letter to John Sexton, dean of NYU School of Law, Jack Rudin explained his aspirations for the Lewis Rudin Distinguished Visiting Professorship Lecture.

Mr. Rudin wrote:
"This gift will allow the Law School to recruit, in Lewis's honor, top international law faculty who will live and teach with their academic counterparts at NYU School of Law, in a living laboratory of international diplomacy, business and culture."
