NYU LAW TO HOST OPEN FORUM, “TORTURE: THE LEGAL ROAD TO ABU GHRAIB AND BEYOND”

WHAT: An Open Forum, “TORTURE: THE LEGAL ROAD TO ABU GHRAIB AND BEYOND, will be sponsored by the Center for Law and Security at New York University School of Law. The forum---a unique gathering of top legal scholars, nationally recognized journalists and leading defense counsel--will survey the legal road to Abu Ghraib, the culpable processes that led to the torture, and the systemic remedies available.

Participants include:

• Burt Neuborne, moderator and NYU law professor, is one of the nation’s foremost civil liberties lawyers.
• Joshua Dratel, lawyer assisting in the defense of Australian detainee David Hicks, who was held incommunicado at Guantanamo Bay for three years and is now charged with war crimes.
• Stephen Gillers, NYU Law professor and legal ethicist.
• Anthony Lewis, reporter and former columnist for The New York Times.
• Major Michael ‘Dan’ Mori, a lawyer for the Marines, is David Hicks’s military lawyer.
• Dana Priest, correspondent for The Washington Post for 15 years, currently covers the intelligence community.
• Samuel Rascoff, served as former Special Assistant to Ambassador L. Paul Bremer.
