"Ancestral Inspirations" combines realism with abstract surroundings. Inspiration comes from the work of art masters, including such great Italian artists as Artemesia Gentileschi, Piero della Francesca and Raphael. From Gentileschi Kopilak takes the artist's personal experience as shown in her work; from della Francesca, mystery and symbolism; and from Raphael, history as one continuous time line.
The juxtaposition of abstract shapes against realistic images in these paintings explores opposing elements: antique/contemporary; abstract/reality; imagination/fact; spiritual/material.
G.G. Kopilak's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums and is in collections both here and abroad. Newsday has said that she paints "with a photo-realist's precision, delineating each fold, each texture, each subtle play of light."
