A two-day global exchange entitled: "An International Conference on the Proposed Convention on International Jurisdiction and the Effects of Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters" will be held at NYU School of Law, 40 Washington Square South, on Friday, April 30 - Saturday, May 1.

The Hague Conference on Private International Law has worked for several years on a worldwide convention to establish standards for jurisdiction of courts and recognition and enforcement of judgments. The negotiations and drafting have proceeded far enough so that one can see beyond the major outlines to many details on the proposed convention, yet not so far that changes are no longer possible.

The NYU School of Law's Conference will bring together lawyers, academics, and officials, including a number of delegates to the Hague Conference. It will explore the issues and appraise the progress of the negotiations in advance of a diplomatic conference scheduled for the year 2000.

Conference convenors are NYU School of Law Professors Linda Silberman and Andreas F. Lowenfeld. Participants include:

Professor Bernard Audit, University of Paris

Professor Andreas Bucher, University of Geneva

Professor Stephen B. Burbank, University of Pennsylvania Law School

Lawrence Collins, Esq., Herbert Smith, England

Professor Trevor C. Hartley, London School of Economics

Professor Konstantinos Kerameus, Director of the Hellenic Institute of International Foreign Law, University of Athens

Professor Catherine Kessdedjian, Hague Conference on Private International Law

Jeffrey D. Kovar, Assistant Legal Advisors for Private International Law, U.S. Dept. of State.

Carolyn B. Lamm, Esq., White and Case, Washington, D.C.
