TV AND PRINT JOURNALISTS INVITED

Former Senator George J. Mitchell, who chaired the Northern Ireland all-party talks that led to the historic “Good Friday” Peace Agreement, will be this year’s honoree at the New York University Annual Survey of American Law’s dedication ceremony.

Each year, the New York University Annual Survey holds a ceremony dedicating one volume to a leading jurist or legal scholar. This year’s honoree, George J. Mitchell, currently chairman of the International Crisis Group, served 14 years in the U.S. Senate, which included five years as Senate Majority Leader. As a senator, he enjoyed bipartisan respect; indeed, it has been said: “There is no man, woman or child in the Capitol who does not trust George Mitchell.”

Past dedicates have included Supreme Court Justices Harry Blackmun, William Brennen, Thurgood Marshall, and John Paul Stevens, Judith Kaye (Chief Justice of New York), First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Attorney General Janet Reno.

The ceremony will take place at NYU School of Law, Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square South on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, from 4:30 to 6 pm. Print and television journalists are invited. For a press reservation, please call Joan M. Dim at 212.998.6849.
